WIP - WORK IN POLISS

WIP is an ideas lab for a city in transition

WIP – The Place That Wasn’t There, in Sassari

2025 – 2029

WIP – Work in POLISS is an urban and social regeneration project created to give back to the city of Sassari a space it was missing: an open, accessible, and vibrant place where participation, inclusion, and culture become daily experiences. It is a project dedicated to the entire community, built together with the people who live in and move through the city.

The Location

WIP is based within the POLISS Center, located in via Baldedda in the Monte Rosello district. In recent years, Officine Condivise has led training programs, workshops, and social activities here, proving that this space has enormous potential to become a landmark for all of Sassari. From this experience, a broader vision has taken shape—one that puts the community at its center and imagines the place that wasn’t there yet: a neighborhood hub that is well-tended, welcoming, and lived-in from day one.

The Project

WIP will develop over four years, progressively activating different areas of the POLISS center. Each space will serve a specific function and hold symbolic value for the city.

  • Year One – The Threshold: The first year focuses on "the threshold"—the entrance and welcome areas—to greet residents of the neighborhood and the city. WIP will immediately be an open space for everyone to get to know the project and start taking part.

  • Year Two – Green Areas: The POLISS gardens will be transformed into an open-air laboratory and a recreational space for people of all ages.

  • Years Three & Four – Sport, Culture, and Music: The sports field, the artistic and music studios, and the open-air theater (cavea) will become the project's beating heart. This phase will host community sports, concerts, performances, talks, cultural festivals, and events that showcase local talent.
